Expert Joinery & Heritage Restoration Services in Manchester & Beyond
A D Taylor Joiner Ltd has been delivering exceptional craftsmanship since 2001, built on over 25 years of specialised experience in restoration and conservation work. Founded by Andrew Taylor, the company has earned an outstanding reputation across the North West and beyond for tackling the most challenging heritage projects.
Andrew’s career began in 1996 with restoration work for S&J Whitehead in Oldham, where he honed his skills on listed buildings, church roof timber repairs, and prestigious projects including Victoria Train Station’s sash windows and Manchester Cathedral roof work. This foundation of experience led to self-employment in 2001, initially working on the refurbishment of Biddulph Grange Country Manor.
What we Do
A D Taylor Joiner Ltd specialises in the restoration and conservation of Grade 1 and Grade 2 listed buildings. With over 25 years of experience working with English Heritage, The Prince’s Trust, and the National Trust, we understand the unique challenges and requirements of heritage properties.
Our Heritage Experience Includes:
- Westminster Abbey acoustic song school construction and refurbishment

- Lion Salt Works, Northwich – recognised as the decade’s greatest conservation project
- St James Church, Liverpool – complete roof realignment and structural repair
- Multiple church roof timber repairs and structural stabilisation
- Victoria Train Station sash window restoration
- Manchester Cathedral roof restoration
Our approach combines traditional craftsmanship with modern structural knowledge, ensuring authentic restoration that meets current building standards whilst preserving historical integrity.
Who we are
The company’s reputation grew through major projects with William Anelay, including the complete restoration of The Florence Institute in Liverpool – a project so significant it was reopened by then-Prince Charles. Other landmark achievements include the full restoration of St James Church in Liverpool, realigning an undulated roof structure, and the complete conservation of the Lion Salt Works in Northwich. This latter project, involving the restoration of four timber pan houses that were literally falling down, was recognised as one of the greatest conservation projects of its decade and now operates as a museum.
Perhaps most notably, A D Taylor Joiner Ltd spent nearly two years at Westminster Abbey, constructing a new acoustic song school for the choir and refurbishing facilities. The company’s work is permanently recorded in Westminster Abbey’s detailed trade records – a testament to their professional standing.
Following major fire restoration projects including Uphill Manor in Weston-super-Mare (70% destroyed), Ashwellthorpe Lodge in Norfolk, and The Lodge at Harrow in London, the company has established itself as a go-to specialist for complex restoration challenges.
Today, A D Taylor operates as a family-run business with Andrew’s son joining the team. The company employs four experienced joiners with over 20 years’ experience each, plus an apprentice, ensuring skills are passed to the next generation.
